First Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and
a part of the world-wide Christian Church.
God enables us to live together as a voting community in and through
which we carry out our God-given mission.
Gather in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit:
Christ gathers us as community where all are invited and welcome.
We gather to worship, pray, and hear the Good News of Jesus.
We celebrate and share the sacraments of Holy Baptims and Holy Communion.
We gather to support and encourage one another through the joys and difficulties of daily life.
Grow in faith and love:
We encorage each other, regardless of age, to grow in faith and love throughout our lives.
We offer and encourage the participation in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School,
Confirmation instruction, Youth forum, Bible studies, Adult forum, varied small groups,
Crossways Camping Ministries, and more.
Go out to serve and invite others to faith in Christ:
We are called and equipped to go out and serve in the church, community and the world.
We are God's partners as we share his love, helping to meet our neighbors' physical and spiritual needs.
We invite all people to faith in Christ and to Christian fellowship and service while participating in the life of this congregation.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 2.7 million members in more than 8,400 worshiping communities across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. The ELCA believes all who come to worship are welcome into the community of faith. The ELCA is an engaged, active body of people who put faith in God into action in millions of ways, all over the world. Known as the church of "God's work. Our hands.," the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians and service in the world. The ELCA's roots are in the writings of the German church reformer Martin Luther.
We are a church that is deeply rooted and always being made new. Our roots are in Scripture and a collection of writings called the Book of Concord, as well as in the rich histories of our congregations. We’re a church that strives to be faithful to the gospel and work toward more justice and wholeness in the world.
We are equipped to live and serve in the world with all its complexities, tensions and ambiguities. All are welcome here. To learn more about the details of what we believe as a church in the ELCA Synod, we invite you to learn more by clicking the link below.
